Shok, man, you're overexaggerating.
I understand that maybe it looks bad from an imm perspective, but there really isn't any mass exchange of quest information going on. I'll admit there may be too much current-game information shared, like who died, or what's in, etcetra, but I'm friends with most of the people listed below, we talk a lot, and we just don't go around telling each other quests.
For example, I went to the lost elven vaults the first time like a week ago. I could have asked any number of people about the traps and such. Would they have told me? I don't know. Did I? No. In the end, it's just a game, and people on IRC are just like the other players, they enjoy a challenge too. Did I have a blast exploring (and dying, oops :P) the vaults? Yes. Would I have enjoyed it as much knowing what the next step was going to do? No. I think in the end 90% of players enjoy the rush of doing something on their own enough to not use other methods, even when available. Generalizing everyone on IRC into "only cares about power, easiest and fastest route" is downright incorrect. Sure, Arolin might not care about exploring, but that's no reason to say nobody else does, and no reason to condemn the entire thing.
My two pesos.
