That could be a short term solution. I'd like to take size into account though, if we were going to bother with something like this. If I took a party of ten to go fight Cthulhu, I'd want assurance that all ten of us could surround his tentacled majesty and fight him at once. If I had ten kobolds fighting a fire giant, I'd want the same assurance.

Boy, that'd mess with the spam-practicers for dodge/parry/etc.

Quest area mobs could be taken care of. I do like the idea that some players could be in combat but only in a limited capacity ("Damn, when the six of us attacked him, only one out of every eight of my attacks ever got near him!").
