Yes, of course. Silly of me...(a bit long.):

I completely agree. Much better to sit in one's guild with one's thumb up one's ass, spamming 'c invis, vis' ad nauseum. I'm quite sure I read that is the preferred way of spending one's time in Thera. I've heard rumors where the Imms will immort you if you do that, and avoid pk or rank at 'risky' times. Define risky, by the way. Thing go smoothly for 4 hours, and suddenly the mud crashes? That's our fault for being stupid enough to 'risk' it? Or is it better to wait several months to see if the problem goes away?

On the other hand, not only is this not a 'trivial' thing, but I fail to see where some minor code changes will jeopardize the balance of the entire mud. So your affects are nulled after a crash. This ruins the who in the what now?

The one problem I can see is distinguishing between a crash and a log-off. I.e., someone has some pets killed, logs off, then logs on to recreate them. Certainly things like this can be monitored, and certainly there must be some very simple ways of only nullifying affects on a crash, not a logout.

As far as xp, what's the problem there? Yeah, so people are a bit more risky than they otherwise would be. So lower the cons. Whatever. What's more traumatic to the well-being and morale of the mud, someone who wakes up dead, naked and in a tough-to-climb out of hole for no fault of their own, or someone who con dies a little sooner because they took more risks. In any case, con isn't the only solution. Hell, if it were up to me, I would just say upon any death, you are set back to what you would have needed FOR THAT LEVEL. If you're at 15, and need 10000 to 16, and die with 1000 to go, you then need 10000 to rank, irrelevant of your current xp.

Quite the ramble. That's the only thing that's really bothered me about this mud, and although I still play obviously, despite it, it doesn't mean I can't suggest alternate methods, especially when crashes/router problems are commonplace.

So there.
