This is going to sound kind of cruel, but... if you are doing anything dangerous while the lag is bad like it's been the last few days, you are taking a chance. I see no reason why that should be license for _everybody_ to live with foolish abandon because the consequences will be lessened.
If you can't find something relatively less risky to do besides ranking, or simply must have a full army of pets when things are lagging very consistantly, than you need to live with the dangers.
There's always going to be lag, for some people more than others. No reason to completely change the balance of the mud for such a trivial reason.
