Yes, double block is pretty useless in pk situations. However, there are many other times when it is very useful. Ranking, of course, exploration, and gathering equipment. However, if you never explore with someone else, I can see why you would think the skill is useless.
I don't remember poultice being a problem at all. I remember a time when there were 7 people I had to cure of poison, blindness and plague, and did so in probably under 3 ticks with mana to spare. (I didn't have it close to perfection at the time either, so I failed a few times). However, if you're trying to cure crimson scourge with it, don't bother. In my experience, it never cured crimson scourge.
I can't say I had a mana problem either, but then again I was an arial. I found field dressing to be extremely useful, not just for helping to keep other ragers alive, but for me in pk situations. I can think of several times when I would be near half health, then after bindwounds and field dressing be back to full health and back in action. It makes you very tough to kill (unless you're being blasted by area spells, of course), and reduces recovery time enormously.
Yes, Berserkers will do more damage. While I could solo raid at hero level, it would take a decent amount of time (when fighting the archmage.. the omegus isn't that bad). I was generally more useful to others at that time as a healer and someone who could take care of the other cabal's defenders.

You're somewhat correct here.. the berserkers do get more glory and are generally much more feared than defenders, and will probably rack up more kills than you as well. However, the powers you have as a defender still put you close to equal ground as a lone, uncaballed warrior who knows where to get stoneskin and a few heals. It was probably easier being a defender as an assassin than it would be a warrior, because assassins are more versatile, especially at hero ranks, however, I think you're bitching a bit too much about defender's powers and you are not playing them with the correct attitude.
