I think that disarm is very much like the defensive skills that one has.

For example if you are an assassin and a warrior comes at you with a mace or axe or polearm, you arent going to be very evasive, because you dont know how those weapons work.

So I think that disarm and defending against disarms works on three differant variables...

1. How well you know your weapon.

2. How well you know your opponents weapons.

3. And proficient you are at disarming.

Of course, I could be 100% wrong on all of this.
