The IMMs have made it clear that way too many items have been flagged "magic". As a result, it is left to the discretion of each villager as to whether or not an item is tainted by sorcerous evils.

Taking a good look at a charred leather bracer, I'd get that icky tainted feeling, what with all the runes and all that.

As a counterexample from the same mob, Tarus' sleeves are also flagged magic. However, if I remember right, they just look like sleeves. I don't think any Rager would look funny at you for wearing those.

It's a judgement call, largely.
