No, no you don't have to be lawful, BUT you do have to respect the law and those that enforce it.

This means you can break the law if it's within your religion, but you should NEVER deny doing so when asked by an arbiter. Some of the more gung-ho roleplayers may even feel guilty about "bending" a part of their code by breaking the law and would therefore even confess to the crime without there actually being a case.

To deny that you broke the law? That's lying AND it's disrespecting the law and its enforcers. That's two or three broken codes right there. You should be unempowered.
