Read the code. Laws of the Land. That's mighty open to interpretation, based on your religion.

Respect is not the same as 'cower before'. If I dont feel I broke a law, I'll tell you no.

And the way the code is writted, it is impossible to maintain the entire code. You have to pick and choose what parts of it your paladin will focus upon, and stick to it.
