I was trying to compare it to having a jewelled broadsword at early ranks. It's nice, and helpful, but eventually you want much more. It's not something worth multicharring for. (I know, nothing is). Your hypothetical embodiment of evil armband, though, was a little more than the equivalent of an amulet of the viper, no? It's something you might consider creating a RP justification for. (But still not worth it.)

If I were playing a good-aligned shaman, there are other things I'd seek out to wear around my neck.
