I usually tell people that the longer they want to make their role, a)the more effort they have to put into it, and b)the more effort they have to put into their character. By putting effort into it, I mean things like proofreading, or keeping all the lines below 80 characters so it looks neat. Having correct grammer and having the whole thing justified properly, and all around looking nice, makes it much easier to read through a long one. The same goes for the character... if you're obviously roleplaying all the time, and sticking to it, an immortal thats going to be interacting with you will be more interested in reading through a small novel, than they would for someone who power ranked to level 20, wrote a huge role (well done or not) and threw in a note to a cabal.

A role does not a character make... you still have to roleplay.
