It's a shame any way you look at it:

Andaren was a friend of mine, at least for a short period of time, so this isn't exactly the first time I have heard of immortals using their "ooc" knowledge in the game when they play other characters. But then again, depending on what you consider "ooc" knowledge, so do we all. Are we all cheaters?

For instance.... when you begin a character, do you pretend you don't know the areas? Some people do, even if they've been playing for years. That's good RP. I have noticed, however, that this good RP quickly goes away when they are being chased. Suddenly they know exactly what the lay-out of every area is again. Why is that, do you think? Could it be.... because they are human and play a GAME for fun and don't think it's fun to be PKed? Hm. Not very surprising really.

Now I know that's not exactly what you are talking about either. But another for instance, let's say Nepenthe (just an example, not an accusation or an implication) is playing a mortal character and groups with me. He sees me saying things like "Damn, my f***ing cheeseburger I got at McDonalds is burnt! Those guys could f*** up a wet dream!" and "afk a sec guys, my cat just s*** on the carpet again." He thinks to himself, this person can't roleplay their way out of a paper bag. Then, later, when he is on as Nepenthe, I pray to him for a tattoo. Now my roleplaying is perfect, I am in every way the role in my "role" and seem to know exactly what my character would do/think/feel throughout my conversation with him. Now, as Nepenthe should he go ahead and give me the tattoo? NO WAY! Why would an immortal (administrator of a game) reward someone who had absolutely horrible roleplay just because they didn't observe that horrible roleplay with their "immortal" character? They have a game to run, and roleplaying is only part of that equation. If they see some jackass running around with Nepenthe's tattoo they're really going to wonder why they bother roleplaying all the time.

The imms cheat? How? Did Nepenthe cheat as Istendil because he knew where everything was in Thera, and therefor his lich quest wasn't quite as trying as some others might have been? Is he suposed to just... forget that knowledge? Do you, when you play? No. You can't.

I'm sorry, I'm rambling, I'm tired. But you get my point, I hope.

CF is a game, and people need to run it so that it is fun and not just a mess of people doing whatever the hell they please. These same people ARE going to play the game. I think it's safe to say that none of the imms are imms just because they like to be imms. They liked the game first, then became imms. So they WILL play mortals. I think the big questions as far as that is concerned are:

1: Are the imms "cheating" detracting from the joy of playing the game or the quality of the game?

2: Are these imms who are "cheating" still adding a positive element to the game?

I think the answer to #1 is pretty obvious, since most of the player-base had/has no clue that there is any cheating going on. The answer to #2, for the most part I think, is yes. The imms, as imms, are serving their function. The game is growing. Players are getting tattoos, empowerments, etc in a somewhat timely fashion. And a second part to #2, the imms mortal characters are almost ALWAYS a joy to interact with, fight, ect. Was Istendil overpowered? Certainly. The mix of power and knowledge was undefeatable about 90% of the time. But everyone loved interacting with Istendil. I'm sorry I don't have any current examples, I haven't played in a few years. But I remember people flocking to be with Istendil, fight Istendil, talk to him. Or even to have a STORY about him to tell others! He was sometimes frustrating, but for the most part he was a positive addition to the game. Even if he was "cheating" in any way (once again, just an example, not an accusation/insinuation).

I'm sorry I rambled. Graatch, you'll be missed regardless of what anyone says. You were a great roleplayer and ever a good PKer (occasionally). (= I'd say please don't quit, but you seem pretty frustrated. E-mail me if you want to, I'd welcome talking to you further.

(please don't flame me for anything I said here, I don't think it helps anything)
