I think this is worth commenting a little further on. Any decent immortal is generally going to have a fairly extensive knowledge of the game. How seriously could you take one if you tried to report a bug in the Forest of Nowhere and they just had no idea where it was or what you were talking about? That being said, there is definitely an effort made on our parts to avoid making use of knowledge we wouldn't or shouldn't have as "just players." > CF is a game, and people need to run it so that it is fun and not just a mess of people doing whatever the hell they please. These same people ARE going to play the game. I think it's safe to say that none of the imms are imms just because they like to be imms. They liked the game first, then became imms. So they WILL play mortals. I think the above is possibly the best paragraph in the post. We might go months or years without playing much or even at all, but ultimately we started hanging around CF because we enjoyed playing it. Now, does that mean that at times we might have discussed those mortals with each other? Well, yeah. Let anyone who has friends who also play CF and has never made any mention of their characters outside the game cast the first stone. The ability to see login sites puts even a different spin on that still. Sure, I could try to lie to BoltThrower and claim that I don't know anything about a mortal that just happens to login from a site that only I play from when they come up in conversation, but how ridiculous would that be? That said, we're definitely always trying to go beyond just being like everyone on IRC or ICQ or whatever. . . and as an insider I can safely say that you see a lot less of that all the time.
> The imms cheat? How? Did Nepenthe cheat as Istendil because he knew where everything was in Thera, and therefor his lich quest wasn't quite as trying as some others might have been? Is he suposed to just... forget that knowledge? Do you, when you play? No. You can't.
