Warning, this response is probably a little on the personal side. If you are easily offended, you should probably skip it. Well, Imms are visible when they are able. There's alot they are doing when they do not wish to be bothered though, which is why pray/notes are so useful for contacting them then. New areas are written, coding is done, people are observed in peace, and it wouldn't be possible if every 3 minutes somebody was sending them tells like 'ru gona help me find my crps?". Additionally, if all the imms stayed visible all the time, that'd just let people know its time to cheat when they don't see any. > 2) People are afraid to put time and effort into 'risk' chars such as paladins. This is because they fear they could be unempowered (Betrayer flag) for something small. > solution.....Have another punishment for classes such as paladins they dont destroy their char. Paladins are supposed to be rare. It is a demanding class, and with all the challenges finally comes the reward that the class has been needing for so long. I'd rather have 2 super-competant paladins in Thera than the 100 or so half-minded types that ran around in the days of Knights, without a clue what the paladin's code was for. For the average mudder, they will get plenty of chances as a Paladin to prove themselves worthy. You'd need to screw up an awful lot to lose powers, and then unless you were a total idiot, you could still get them back with some "roleplaying". > 3) People are forced to spend way too much time practising skills and or spells. Because if they dont, they seriously will be at a disadvantage. > Solution....Reduce the time required for mastery, this will also make getting a group easier. Aren't you one of the guys that just ran scripts for 100 hours or more a week to master all your transmuter spells? Funny hearing you talk about wanting a level playing field. Carrionfields is about character development, ie putting time into your character. If people didn't have to take time out to master spells and roleplay, what would be the point? Anybody could hit hero in 20 hours. You can login to POS mud and do that exact thing in 0 hours (I'm not knocking POS mud, I think its a fine game). The current practicing requirements work well in that warrior-types have an easier time at first, but mages grow stronger at higher ranks after much learning. > 4) Alot of people dont seem to complete characters, they level up a bit, spend time practising, die and delete, then repeat > solution.....More emphasis on playing 1 character for a longer time, go back to 5 deaths per con loss. Again, I can't believe this is you saying this. I'd almost think somebody is borrowing your handle. How many characters did you, personally play? > 5) The mud has too many street trash vermin that for some reason seem to play just to get eq. > solution.....Change corpse looting to pk_only for the first 3 tics. Again... this coming from Arolin? What exactly did you bring to the mud that was any different? Admittedly I haven't interacted with any of your characters (knowingly, atleast) in around a year, but _you_ are complaining that people are too focused on eq, and not getting that eq because of lowbie looters? I don't know where to begin with that... > 6) The problem with getting into cabals is always about time, should be about effort > solution.....Having to play 24/7 and sacrifise your daily lifestyle just to catch that mortal leader sucks, then you catch him and he is busy. Should be more leadership positions in the cabals to speak too. They then can weed out the good from the bad by giving more quests. That's already been covered a few posts down, so I won't rehash that. > 7) Cf can get so boring at times when your still levelling up. CF gets boring when you don't have 2 other friends you can call upon for instant groups. That's a consequence of so many years of conditioning. > solution...... Make it so your moves dont run out every 10 seconds forcing you to sleep. There's lots of ways to allieviate the movement issue, I'd think you would know about them. > 8) Dawn is a stupid cabal, it seems to have no purpose I don't suppose you've ever donated to charity or anything? Some people enjoy helping others. Dawn is about spreading goodwill and peace. Some people care about total strangers, and making the world a better place. I don't suppose that interests you though. > 9) Cabal choice is so unven, not many people are encouraged to apply for entropy and scarab. > solution....The former, let a mortal induct, i am sure there is some roleplay way of letting this happen, use your imagination imms. The later, Hard roleplay requirements for little payout until hero. Bring in some lower level powers to bring the people. no comment on this. Not all cabals are meant to be equal. > 10) Arbiters turn people into wimps, because you cant stand up to hero guards unless your hero. I hate this. Plus, why should there be only 1 punishment (Death) for all crimes. > solution....Have various punishments such as gold fines and Something like a whipping :P Where you have like minus stats for 200 hours before it heals Something I actually agree with you on. Death is excessive in most cases. Fines never worked though. Fines almost always went right into the pocket of the guy with the badge, which didn't exactly encourage fairness when the law was on the line. I am very in favor of people gaining permanent flags after so many offenses. Habitual criminals should be kicked out of their hometowns after awhile. But that is probably more extreme than what you wanted. In summary, you have some issues here. I'm not sure posting under your name lends any credibility behind them, but who am I to talk. You probably know the game a heck of alot better than me, atleast from a technical perspective. Maybe you should start focusing on the spiritual aspect of things though... "karma", "what goes around comes around", you've heard those tired phrases. But I could have sworn you said you weren't ever playing again, so once again... this can't be the real Arolin making this post.
> 1) People dont wish to play empowerment classes because they fear the imm will never be on.
> solution....Imms become visible more often or other imms take over empowerment for absen
But, I'll refrain from discussing how cheating hurts the game, though, and stick to your points... Not enough time to rehash that.
People play different characters because they want to, the rare few who stick with their characters to the end do so because they are attached to that character. We shouldn't try to force anybody to put 500 hours into a character if they want to try something else.
> solution....Bring back knights or some cabal other than Dawn.
