I don't know where that came from. The only way to subtract from damage is to employ one of the multitude of resisting spells/wands/objects/skills.

> Um... no, I'm sorry but that is completely wrong. Without giving away the specific numbers of how it works, each point of -save gives you a percentage chance to either completely ignore a magical attack (such as sleep, blindness, etc), or to take half damage (all damage spells).
