In Reply to: The decay of Master, why it's basically Newbies, and Conjurer's now. posted by *ORB* on August 26, 2000 at 12:41:24:
> Let's see why the Cabal is now filled with Conjurer's and semi-newbies. Notice I didn't say everyone is a newbie, there are some die hard Master fans like myself who still play them. > Master: > I think most people would agree, Masters powers were turned from Power adding, to simply Time savers. > Compare this to: > Entropy: Disperse- great for rager gangbangs, chaos flame- not quite scourge, Dopple- Great for Muters and Necros, Gibberish and confuse- I'll trade these for tome and transform as well. > From a roleplay perspective, It's like Masters went from the World's most powerfull mages, To the laziest, all the powers are based on just making things easier. I mean even the help files say They believe in Power through Knowledge, Discipline. > My answer allow Barrier Rods with Transform. It makes thier main power usefull for all classes not just Conjurers. And before you say Join another Cabal if I don't like the way things have changed for Masters, I like to roleplay the Master character type, thus I have little interest in Sylvan, Empire, Entropy etc. --Even though it seems like I disagree with you on most points(again, I am anti-master), I do agree that they need something to lure back some power players(maybe something that allows all spells to be cost at a lower amount *shrug*). The Chaotic, SB.
--Well, everyone who knows me knows that I am anti-master(stuck up snobs ;p). So even though my opinion doesnt really matter...
> Tome - Speeds up learning spells slightly, basically only valuable if you don't have time to practice.
> Transform- Useless to all but Conjurers and newbies who can't find Barrier rods. To all others it's just convienent.
> Scourge-Semi usefull, though since it's been toned down, basically only Really usefull for Conjurers and transmuters.
> Control Magic- Again just makes things easier, doesn't really give added power, most usefull to Invokers.
--I mostly agree.
> Sylvan Mage: Strengthen, beast call, insect swarm, wall of thorns, Hands down 10 times better powers.
--Umm, not 10, if you try, these can be easy to get around. They are better but not that much.
> Imperial: For someone who isn't supposed to have great cabal powers I would rather have Invoke and orderly mind then tome and transform any day.
--It is kinda sad when people even consider Imperial powers to rival someone else's..let alone the Master's of Magic.
--Entropy is well entropy :)
--This statement can be taken many ways. Personally, I believe that if someone has taken the time to 'master' skills/spells, then they are fairly powerful. Do you disagree? Or do you think those that only have 1 skill/spell perfected fight better?
--Umm, no. I remember being a bard and being attacked by only a transformed and sanc'ed lion(back before aura, barrier, shield). I can tell you that really sucked. The lion almost took me out and fought with 2 or 3 hero arbiters(causing them to flee).
