> 1) Change a thieves "sneak" skill so that when sneaking mobs can no longer track them. Assassins already have a different type of "hide" skill that allows them to hide in the wilderness... You could have this 'improved sneak' only work in cities (or roads or some arbitrary zone). And while we're at it, we can include an 'improved hide' of sorts for city-only use. Additionally, I'd like to see these city-only abilities lost if the thief joins a non-city-oriented cabal. (as long as we're just throwing stuff out there :P ) > 2) Give them a skill called "bargin" It would allow a thief to sort of haggle a price with a mob to buy a piece of it's equipment. Similar to request, and difficulty based on level difference and alighnments. Price would depend on item sought. I think everyone is agreed about the insane amounts of gold & objects beyond bargaining clause. I'd also include not bargaining for things a thief can't use (or limiting those bargains). > 3) Give elder thieves (rank 40+) the ability to use staves and maybe wands. Hero level thieves have a hard time surviving against other hero ranked. How about if they master Scrolls first? Of course that could very well be in place now since most thieves aren't known for their rampant scroll usage. Definitely not wands, ever. But I'm not sure that just giving them Staves outright (just by hitting a level) is the way to go. Make the bastards learn their scrolls. Heh heh! > 4) Improve "pick lock" skill for thieves only. Bards and anti-pals can keep the weaker version. It would not open all locks, but open up some possibilities. (or let ap's and bards loose pick locks to make it unique) Ditch the skill from A-Ps (which we can cover in their eventual revamp threads) and assassins. I'd be alright with bards keeping it, though in my personal experience drunks are more prone to 'relock' than 'pick lock'. Probably just me. > 5) Give thieves an "envenom" skill allowing them to mix their own poisons to apply to weapons for a short duration. That beats creating poison daggers *roll*. I'd go a step further and suggest they be allowed to poison potions. Steal potion, poison it, put it back. Now that's fun. Let's broaden the idea of 'poisons' while we're at it. A variety of effects are always nice. > 6) Give thieves a "climb skill" This would allow a thief to escape from "certain" trap types. Such al climbing out of a pit, avalanch, etc. I have to side with the group that says anyone flying (pick a type of flying) gets dibs on escaping from certain no-exit rooms first. I'd have to have more insight into the "certain trap types" before endorsing this one. You might have been thinking of something different than no-exit rooms, I don't want to put words in your mouth on that. > 7) remove a thieves dual backstab- it can be a little too effective, and turns thieves into assassins instead. Ugh. This is always the big one. I'll leave that up to the Staff, who would obviously have a better view of the big picture. > 8) give thieves enhanced damage earlier in life. As things are now, sure, but in the face of a larger revamp, who knows. > 9) (this was mentioned earlier by someone else...) Give thieves the skill "pry" it would allow a thief to get one item from an unconscious victem that they are holding or wearing. Something along this line would be a lot of fun. > 10) give elder thieves a new version of hide allowing them a "chance" to avoid being seen by non-thieves with detect hidden. This sort of goes with the 'improved hide' in 1) Hmmm.....I'd rather think about this one in terms of them redoing 'light', where nobody hides when everything they're wearing is glowing. The side effect being that Invis becomes a little more useful. Personally, I'm for seeing some differences between 'city thieves' and 'highwaymen' types. Anyway, nice to see people bringing up ideas.
> 11) give thieves "dark vision", like rangers but forbid them to hide and sneak if they are wearing glowing equipment...
