> > Honor is honor is honor is honor. The basic principle of 'honor' doesn't change...regardless of which god presides over it. The biggest thing about honor, is that it's something that comes from within, not something that another entity governs over you. You make your choices and decide if they're honorable or not....if they're not, expect a smack down. > If Honor comes from within, from yourself, and you make your choices thinking what you are doing is honorable, then how can you be smacked down? Because big brother is watching, and if you don't stick to your own morale code...one with honor that you yourself define...since nothing is really going to happen to you, we may intervene and impose a consequence for your action that deviated from the role you yourself chose. Unlike in real life(tm), consequences aren't quite so kharmatic, and at times the immstaff must become the 'hand of god' (or gods) and play the role of kharma. Being smacked down means someone is judging you and in fact their concept of honor does govern you. See above. Otherwise there would be no "smack down" other than from your own conscience. That's what your role is for...let your conscience be your guide and let your role be your conscience...we'll merrily play Jimmy Cricket for you. You can't say honor is from within and not from without and then say a force from without will smack you down for not being honorable. What you meant to say, perhaps, is that in most cases it comes from within, and on the hard questions the outside force is willing to let you do as you believe right, but for most of the less complex questions, you will, in fact, be held to a standard set by someone else. It's a game, and with all games there are rules and administrators...in real life(tm), *shrug* depending on your belief system you are either accountable only to yourself or accountable to some higher force. In Thera the latter applies, you are accountable to a higher entity...even if you're an atheist...and if you are, I wouldn't be too loud about your atheist...nor would I take cover in foxholes. > As for the belief that honor can't be explained and either you have it or you don't, that's also not really true. I didn't say I couldn't explain it...I said that I could define it with a lot of words, but you either get the concept or you don't. I could give a definition of it that could probably pass the verbal part of any god-given interview...however if you don't grasp the concept, and need a crib-sheet or someone holding your hand throughout the whole time you play your character...there's no point to having a definition. That was my point. The problem is that everybody who has spoken about it in this game has either changed their definitions with time and circumstances (which means they really weren't defining it as itself but only relative to the game) It hasn't changed really...the circumstances it's applied to have changed, but honor and the concept therein have remained pretty much the same. or doesn't want others to copy them so they beg off by saying it's too amorphous for definition. If the words fail you, one can always simply give examples. But I am confident that the concept is definable with language. You and the other immortals just dont want to because you fear hearing it over and over and over again. Understandable, but a tad dishonest. Oh get over yourself...it's not dishonest. Yes, you're right...I could very easily give a lenghty definition of it..(see my above post). The fact that I do not, and will not...do not make me a dishonest person, or someone engaging in a dishonest act. I see it more as trying to teach a man to fish...and not just handing him a fish....however in this case, the best way for someone to learn to fish is just to start casting...*shrug* Most of this was stated by other people (better than I put it in some cases) below, but I figured I'd reply since it was a response to my post. "Mystify...you mystify me.
To simplify...honor comes from within (you define your honor...if you understand honor, then Balg will probably agree with you, and allow you to work from your role and definition...if you don't grasp honor, you're not going anywhere.) If you deviate from your chosen point of honor you are smacked down (Immstaff playing gods again...those bastards)
Mystify, you mystify me."
