Two reasons:

1) Aggro mobs.

True. This falls into the category of "OK" randomized mazes, like the Void. In this case, it's bcause this isn't a purely random maze, and look can help you out. If you don't know to type look, I can see how you'd spend a while in that place. But there's something to be learned and utilized by the player, and once you know what to "look" for, you can walk through in 5-10 seconds.

Unless I'm an idiot, there's no "trick" to getting through the Arboria graveyard, or the Mists of T-A, or the aforementioned parts of Hell, among others.

True. I have no issues with the randomness of it, and didn't mention it. I personally almost never used it because it's too damn big. If I needed to get around a Centurion/gangbang trap at the large crossroads, then yes. But I'd never just do it for the heck of it.
