In Reply to: Rolling stats, Why is it getting harder and harder ?, Immortals Id like to know why character creation on cf is getting beyond a joke (Text inside, would like answers if possible) posted by Hastur on October 15, 2000 at 03:47:58:

I wrote my own little character generation program for Zmud in about twenty minutes (and I am no computer programmer by any stretch of the imagination) using the help files to figure out how to make triggers. Instead of totalling the numbers, I find out what the max for each category is after about thirty manual rolls. Then I set my triggers to accept any roll that is within three of the max (i.e. max strength is 18, take 16 and up) for all stats, including charisma. Usually, I get within 7 to 8 of max stats (total) in about fifteen minutes. Sometimes it's even better. Sometimes its worse, in which case I start over. Then I go use my three trains to bump up the ones I want to, and use trains over the life of my character to bump up whatever else I feel like. Pretty simple, no stress method.

I guess I'm just curious why you feel that you need max stats on your initial roll. You get trains throughout the life of your character and can use them to max your stats if it is that important to you. Or you can find items that raise your stats. I suppose you can use all your trains on hp or mana, but then you have to weigh the stress and time of spending 40+ hours rolling against that extra 30 or 50 hp. It's just not worth it to me.

I would venture to guess that the majority of players don't try for, or need, perfect stats on their initial roll. That being said, I would also assume that the Imms aren't going to change the stat roller any time in the foreseeable future (that's my opinion, anyhow...I could be wrong).
