> yes, asking about a skill, and a long time ago at that, > I picked it because it shows that when you were a newer player, you needed help as well. Most people do. It has nothing to do with spoonfeeding- there are times when there are things that your character should know that the player doesn't- such as an assassin with 75% stalk not knowing what to do with it. Wouldn't the guildmaster have mentioned something? Ideally, the answer would be in the helpfile, but the helpfile for that particular skill isn't so obvious. I have the belief that when someone has a doubt a good way to solve that is by either solving it by yourself or asking someone that knows, i believe that praying to ask a question is far better than ask here in the forum to a bunch of people that to show off on their supossed skills they will usually create some solution or say something in which they are not 100% sure. This was brought to my attention after a few posts of mine. > Similar example: Someone recently asked how to, as an example, hit the second kobold in the room. Your character certainly knows how to pick the one on the right. PRAY, is the way to go, ask in the newbie channel works very well too. > Finally, there are lots of things that are completely inappropriate to discuss in game: game balance, roleplay, etc. This Forum is a fine place for that. > Lets say that some little joke here, posts answers to quests, that i didnt knew(it happens a lot), > A lot? Hardly, unless you define "quests" a lot differently than the VIP staff does. It's very rare that we have to nail posts like that, and it's a good way to end up on the ban list. Usually, the quests are given by way of subtle hints, and a lot of subtle hints make for a complete document. > If one of those jokes becomes common knowledge, i wont have that information because i didnt read this forum and wasnt spoon fed. I will loose a bit of edge in the game then. > Using logic like that, I could justify an ICQ permagroup, emailing databases of quest solutions and maps among an "inner circle", and many other forms of cheating that could give me an edge. You're saying spoonfeeding is despicable, but you'll partake anyway? Hypocrisy. If you think the Forum is evil, take your case to Dioxide or the IMMs, and don't come here. I think the Forum, within the Forum Rules is a fine way to advance the game as a whole. It's why I spend time enforcing the Forum Rules, and why I'm comfortable reading it. I dont know how you would justify it, and i dont usually fall in that case of hipocresy, because i dont usually answer something, it has to be extremely important or with too much a meaning to me for me to post a solution or an answer, i dont like to contribute to what i consider a problem. At least after i saw what i see now. > Tell me doesnt it sounds wrong that to get better in a game, you read a forum? > It doesn't to me. I think it's a great resource, much like the official web page. It provides people with some basic information, and a format in which they can chat with the CF community about how to make the game better, share stories, and fine tune their own playing skills. i agree on the sharing of stories, the char board as a forum for those that are dead, i find it a great idea,i have some doubts with the rest. As far as basic information, pray an imm, questions about roleplay, pray for an imm, i believe its in the rules that you can pray to an imm on places to rank, or a good role for your player, etc. Its all on the helpfiles or at the wave of a hand with the pray. > Judging by Randarab's farewell thread, you've found things you want to discuss OOC as well. See? No one got hurt. see above, about the char board. > By your logic, I could say the following: "Do you want Nepenthe to spoon-feed you how to impress him? It's totally unfair that you found out that praying four whole times isn't shit. You should keep rolling up characters and repeating that mistake until you get it right somehow." As much as you may or may not know about exploration and PKing, some of the things you said in that thread give me the impression that you could use some pointers on Immteraction. (*) (**) I guess i did fall on the go to the easier way, instead of using an email to talk to nepenthe i went here. > Hardly. But stumbling around blind isn't so fun either. agreed, there is pray, etc. to talk to an expert whenever you want. all those bugs and typos, there are commands that log those in the game, and are better dealt with there than here. A bit ago someone posted a bug, all these people that see the bug, the first thing that they think is "lets exploit the fucker", and they will do that until an imm comes here and starts to correct the problem. thormakar
Now, if that bug had been reported by way of a prayer or an e-mail, no further exploiting of the bug would have happened.
