I have spent quite a bit of time in forests, and with a few simple tools(compass, the sun, etc...) and half a brain, getting totally, absolutely turned around(i.e. having no idea which way is north, south, east, or west) is fairly difficult to do. I would think those who make a living out of travelling about doing heroic deeds and such would be a bit better than me at finding their way about...
