Dare I ask if a purge would be fun? (Far less outlandish things inside.):

I think the imms have sort of stated purges are not toys. But the last one did mark
huge changes in the cabal ideals and was the start of some semblence of roleplay for the mud.
(Descriptions mandadory?!)

Challen, a string of your characters were well known among people on IRQ, etc, which
are some of the more skilled players. Most everyone there likes you, and I think it's
possible that those two things can make your character's life even more mundane. I'd
bet there were some characters with opportunities and every IC reason to go after say,
Dhaevor, who didn't because they knew it was Challen behind the wheel. That's not a
knock on you, I'm sure I've done the same in other situations, but if you really want a
bit more of a challenge, try keeping it under your hat, and play a true bastard. I'm
sure tons of people sat around deciding what race/class/cabal they should roll up just to defeat
Palan, or Zorszaul, or whoever else pissed them off enough. You certainly have the skills
and RP to make someone hated enough to bring out the best in people. But keep it to yourself.
I'm thinking any totally badass fire giant spear specs would draw some speculation right now too...
Do you agree at all, or think it actually draws more trouble to you when people know?

I think I'd agree with most of the points people below have
posted.

Most players now:

Rank faster
Delete faster
Have characters of various rank/cabal at once so they never have to be the whipping boy.
Have friends OOC through IRQ, e-mail, etc that allow them to design perfect pk groups.

In some sense, the problem is that the player base is far smarter in some ways than they
were when I first was playing. When I was CuChulain, my char age died at 560ish hours,
and only managed to rank up to level 46. He was leader of battle, and had been for I'd
guess half those hours, if not more. I only played him, I played him constantly. I actually knew
every person in battle, and probably most of the applicants. People took a long time to
level up, even at the 20's. Applicants would come on raids and actually fight other 20ish
players, and have rivalries with them. Most people stayed the same level for longish periods
of time, and not because they were out spamming dirt mist 1000 times. How long do you think the
average leader is around these days?

Con-loss has made slow leveling a bit less appealing. Now, a lot of people delete if they lose a con
before 40, as if that 10 hp will be the reason they're getting tooled regularly. I'd hate to try
and count the times I've seen a "delete;delete" log on the board from some lowbie warrior or
assassin who gets dirted and disarmed, and then decides it's a good idea to sweep kick or bash that
giant as a felar, instead of fleeing or picking up their weapon. They die, and proclaim they had
"all weapons and defenses perfected." Translated, that means "Clearly it was just a fluke I died."
So instead of training con and risking a char with a few less hp at hero, they spend another 40 hours
rolling and spamming skills at level 10, only to get up to 25 and realize they still don't know anything.

The biggest reason we don't see balanced cabal wars day to day is because too many people are afraid to risk
dying and losing con or that perfect set of eq or too childish to see any fun in being on the losing end of
something when they could just quit and log on a char that could be a winner for the day. I wish everone would
play a rager warrior, just to figure out how easy it is to go out and re-equip on unlimited gear in about 20
minutes and beat most people. That's true for any class, assuming you know how to play it well.

While I think all of these things make the mud less fun, I don't see a solution. The imms really can't prevent most of these
things, and I really doubt they'd want to spend all their time doing it even if they could. I'm sure players who don't resort
to these things are rewared by the imms. Beyond that, if the players don't want to grow up, not a whole lot we can do.

One thing I really like is the changes that have happened to lagging commands over time. Long ago, if you say, bashed someone
and missed just as they bashed you, you'd end up lagged for up to 5 rounds. Now lagging attacks seem to run concurently, which
greatly increases your chances of escaping a really bad lowbie pk group.
