> Pick a cabal, and make this the feared cabal.
It's been done before. Fairly frequently. It happened a *lot* in what Challen refered to as the golden days and before. It was because of that that a bright boy, like challen, could always have skilled(but not numerically overwhelming) opponents to cut his teeth on. The down side to it is that eventually you get bored. Masters suck? Ok, now Masters whomp.. and I'm bored. Delete delete. Huh. There are only two sylvan, and they suck? Ok, now Sylvan is unstoppable. I'm bored. Delete delete. The only things that alleviated the boredom was when one 'elite' decided to make a master and another a rager. Then the game was *fun* - for the elites, and for everyone else. It was balanced... and without the forums there was mystery. Newbies learned from the whoopass ally/opponent.. and each thing they learned was a wonder and made them want to play and learn more... it also gave them the logical basis to make the next step in their education. Now? With the forums? People are HANDED mid-level knowledge. Elites kick their ass.. but they kick newbie's ass. So newbies are forced to the forum and forced to get hand-fed their own mid-level education. But they don't know how to increase their own stature. With more and more elites getting bored.. there isn't even opposition. Now, you remember(I realize I'm jumping around.. bear with me) when I said one elite picked one cabal, another the opposing and life was good? Well, life was bad when they both happened to pick the same cabal. Unfortunately, with IRC, ICQ, and people's strange desire(in those that enjoy RPG's anyway) to earn real life recognition.. people frequently swing to perma-groups or the same cabal. Thus making it even less of a contest. Thus making it boring. Thus meaning fewer elites making fewer charecters.
