You really need to lighten. You sound so uptight. If it really is his second character I'm sure he really doesn't understand the point of keeping in character yet. Give him time they'll usually come around. It would have been so simple just to say "occ, I like to keep in character. If you don't keep in character you'll have to find a new groupmate." But Instead people give that stander bullshit reply of acting stupid about real world words. Always gets on my a nerve when a newbie asks for help saying something like "how do I use telnet or something like that" and you "expert rper's" reply "What's a telnet? is that some sort of new lanague?". Lighten up people can't you see he is asking for help?
