No imm is going to smite you for helping newbies learn what IC/OOC is all about. Of course not. However, I can often get the newbie on track without going OOC myself. My argument hinges on the fact that going OOC to tell someone else not to go OOC leaves a thought of the back of their mind that says "Don't go OOC unless it is convenient." (See Lelana's "freight train" analogy for an example of what happens when this point isn't made sharply.) Sometimes it takes a few minutes, but most people come around, and I'm usually willing to put in the time. *shrug* What's your method do? You pretend you don't know what he's talking about, or just ignore him, then pray to turn him in? I'm not "turning him in". I don't want or expect punishment. That was what HB was originally claiming, but it wasn't what I was talking about. But having an IMM speak with the person to explain the rules briefly lets the newbie know that this sort of this is "official", and not the opinion of one crackpot player. Again, it teaches the lesson that should be taught. No harm, no foul, and it sets a better example. First off, he might just think you're confused and try to explain what Monday Night Football is. Second of all, you'll eventually sit there emoting how you're confused at what "linkdead" or "online" means. And people who do that are just dorks. Somebody tells me, "Man, I almost killed this guy, but he went linkdead." My response? "Better luck next time. Perhaps he won't fall unconscious if you keep him interested in the fight. *snort*" Not, "Huh? What is this strange 'linkdead'?" The example he gave ("game") could be handled the way I suggested, since Therans do play games. "Linkdead" obviously couldn't. I can handle that one as well, and have. You're assuming a lot, Macheath.
