Especially with the bit about starting with caltraps.. The best way, I would say, to get a weapon out of someone's hands is to lower their str enough that they can't use it - i.e. kote/kans.. caltraps does -dex and -dam.. which is nice - say they'll get hit more often, and do less damage. But wouldn't it be better if they got hit more often, and couldn't hit you? .. As far as reliability.. I personally don't think that's a factor, but you have to decide for yourself.. To the original question, about throw - I found that in fights, I would either be getting ripped apart by someone with a mace/axe, or else I was definitely winning the fight - in which case my opponents were trying to flee. Throw is nice because it does a fair amount of damage, and hitting a ground control for even more -dex/-str just sort of sweetens the deal.. Throw should be something that you use constantly, until you get into some of the higher leveled lagging kicks. To Zepachu's point about nerve - I usually don't practice it, and never really find myself needing it unless i'm in a fight where I'm not tanking, and it'd be useful to wear down the stats of someone.. but otherwise, I found that there were so many other skills that I could use to knock of dex and str in larger chunks that the -2 at a time of nerve just wasn't *that* useful Hmm yeah, that got long. Anyways, my two cents on assassins
Usually the main strategy is to get weapons out of people's hands - since most people who want to be doing damage with weapons, I found, were using maces and axes.. except for sword specs, but if you get one sword out of their hands, to take out flourintine, you shouldn't have too much trouble..
