I'm no authority on assassins, besides the newbie I just started haven't played one since the second age, but I can tell you that scissor kick does lag. And as far as trip is concerned the big deal is not only how long you lag your opponent but how long you are lagged in return. Without spoiling this painful learning process for you, trip is probably the most efficient lagging technique from a cost/benefit perspective.
