What do you define as "key" spells? Any spell or commune that has a saving throw will be heavily affected by the relative levels of the combatants, certainly, and in that regard, level matters a lot. But in terms of physical combat, the only difference is that one party will have a few more hp and maybe access to more skills than the other. > > Does it matter in a match between a rank 18 arial assassin and a rank 16 arial anti-paladin? No. If the AP loses because they spam blindness or poison and they can't get it off, then yes. But if the AP spams bash, or the assassin spams throw, then level plays no role in the fight except for the above-mentioned few-more-hp factor. > > Should you even bring up rank differences in the game as the reason for your defeat? Probably not. Pretty rare where it's the major deciding factor, really. The PWKing necro with several ranks on the victim is the most common such case. Also, level is a major factor in spellbane. But for the most part, the level complaint isn't all that valid.

> Yes.
> Well, an assassin is a far more prepared killer at 18 than an AP is at 16, or even 20. An AP has a right to say the fight was hardly fair, but then again he shouldn't have been in it in the first place. If you were gloating, however...
> Sure, why not. A proud character has no reason to not extoll (something tells me that's not the right word) the reasons why he would have won had it been 'fair'.
