I don't know how to say this without sounding like an ass...which I can be...but I mean this in the nicest possible way. Honest. I like for people to read too much for me to be a dick about it...mostly. Anyway, what I was going to say is that most of the books people are mentioning are older stuff. And I read it all a while back...so I feel like some new stuff needs to be touted. Sci-fi: Vernor Vinge -- Fire in the Deep This man writes stuff like Dune in it's complete building of alien cultures. It's way cool. Very well written too. Also Catherine Asaro's stuff can be interesting...it's kinda like bodice ripper romance novels with hard science fiction added in. Not for everyone (including me) but fun to look at, I suppose. I can't think of anything else right now...I've been slacking off on my scifi over the fantasy stuff in the last few years. Mrs. Vinge...wife of the above Vernor, wrote a couple of books called Winter Queen and Summer Queen. They are pretty cool...not sure if they qualify as fantasy or scifi...so I stuck them here. Catheryn Haydon--A trilogy about a girl/woman named Rhapsody...VERY GOOD! Of course, I'm a music bum, so I like the bard thing in it. First one's called Child of Blood, I think, second one is Child of Earth. Last one is due out soon. I can't wait. The GRC (EMAL)
Deepness in the Sky
Fantasy:
That's about it for now...just a couple of more recent folk. Later.
