sword is geat against lots of things especially when you get gang banged for deathblow on riposte and good defense and offense in addition.
sword is not hot against mages etc as you dont get a decent lagging attack like pincer and cranial.

swords on a fire giant is scary. Although I died alot at near hero ranks I did VERY well up till about 36th and could take on large groups easily because of the thirst/deathblow/riposte combo which gives you all those nice extra hits on those people who arent tanking. But when bash comes useless (cos of mage shields extra) then it looses out a lot.
