With hunger you get hungry and you suffer. You eat, you stop suffering. You eat more, nothing good happens. Bummer. Doesn't add any fun to the game, but everyone sort of concedes that, ok, it's more realistic (and adds possibilities for things like Famish, potions, pills, etc). Morale, on the other hand, does make life better for you when you improve it. And life can get rough if you neglect your character's comfort. Most people are going to be sitting around in a pretty neutral comfort zone and will be unaware or unconcerned with morale. Some people may have to change their game tactics if they want to keep their characters comfortable. This of course leads to the question of what else in the future can be used to affect morale? There's an awful lot of possibility there that can help enrich the CF experience even further.
Compare it to something like hunger.
