I'd disagree slightly, but only because +mana gear is really easy to find compared to +hp gear. Essentially, if you train straight hp, it is easy to make up for the missing mana by picking up a few items of gear that are always in. Also, if you get killed/looted (which shouldn't happen very often as a healer), it'll be easier to get back on your feet with a lot of hp and not much mana. As for gear, hp are nice, but saves are critical for a healer. So long as you avoid the nastier spell-like abilities out there (sleep, hold/halt, forget, etc.), you have a chance to survive any battle. And never gear damroll, for the same reasons. If you really feel an overwhelming urge to kill people, use progged gear and invokable items, not +dam stuff. You're a healer, not a shaman. Better yet, work in groups. You make other people so much more deadly. You might not strike the killing blow, but you'll be the one who wins the fight. > Most people will tell you to train hp, just out of some sort of misguided reflex. But for a healer... I can't tell you how nice it is to have a huge, huge well of mana to draw from. So long as you don't get held, you should never die. And if you get held, chances are another couple hundred hps wouldn't help you *too* much anyway. I'd say train hp and mana at an even balance, leaning a little toward mana... or perhaps, just train all mana. When you can get 200 hps for 60-65 mana or whatever once you hit rejuvenate, you'll realize why mana is good. > Gear for hps, though. Train mana, gear for hps and saves. Do not gear for dam roll, ever. And don't worry too much about gearing for mana, unless you're ridiculously low... which you won't be, with gnome int and trains.
