Actually, myself, I prefer it when someone who has stolen a name from a book actually plays that character. Obviously, a guy who chooses the name "Matt" should make up his own role, since that name is used in 50 million books. But "Aristobulous" isn't really that common, and so I'd expect any Aristobulous I met to at least have some sort of reason he's in Thera instead of whatever realm he was in in the book/game/etc. that I read previously. (Side note: I haven't read either of the books that Pikel and Aristobulous are from).
If I, for instance, saw a guy named "Barthanes" I'd hope he roleplayed a darkfriend nobleman who had faked his own death...or something. Rather than stealing the name from WoT (TGH) and just making up a whole new role.
So, what I'm saying, in essence, is...the way Pikel did it is way better than the way you're doing it (or Manshoon, the gnome with the name of an ultra-evil ultra-powerful wizard?).
Just my opinion, though.
