Okay, I appreciate the response, and in retrospect I should've phrased my original posts a little more professionally.
First, I agree, if the bells and whistles were attached, the original complaint would be here. But had the immortal in question behaved him or herself in a more polished manner, the player in question would have much less support. It's important for the immortal staff to remain above reproach publically, always. This is simply one of the tenets of administration, and in CF this applies more to roleplaying than anything else but rules-keeping.
Second, how much RP interaction is needed in punishment? As much RP interaction is needed in any player-to-player interaction, according to the rules. My personal view is that when this particular interaction is imbalanced, power-wise, and could result in a major change on the character's part, roleplaying is more than necessary. It is required. It is on par with awarding a tattoo, cabal induction, or finishing the final interaction of a quest. This was not a RULEs infraction, redeemable with one trip to the dead lands and a talk about connection sharing. This was a ROLE discrepancy, and the two can not be dealt with in the same manner. Character must be met with by character, or the entire fucking point is lost in a toilet of pissy bureaucratic indulgence.
Third:
Quoting Scarabaeus Sacer:
"Second, since we don't know who the immortal doing the unempowering is, how do we
know it isn't role-played?"
Holy Icon, Batman, were we reading the same log? That was not "roleplaying" by any stretch. That was "barely looking at the keyboard while watching Jeopardy" if I had to judge. That was "eating cheet-o's and dealing with someone I don't like, one-handed". That was "hey, he's online. why don't I unempower him without putting any thought into presentation or the game as a whole?"
If that was ANYONE's roleplaying, I'd say they should be shot. You would not tattoo, hell, you would not INTERVIEW someone who put that little attention into the interaction. Neither would I. And that, my friend, is my only issue with the log. Nuke the paladin, he's probably a witless freak who's broken the code a dozen times... but do it with style, or don't do it at all. The immortals above everyone else must remember that CF is made CF by mutual energy placed in creating the atmosphere. It is a cloth woven by the fibers of individual creativity; even that shitty paladin put in more than the immortal in the log. That depresses me. I can say offhand which immortals that was not, because I know most of them put pride into their playing. The ones who don't, such as this one, whatever their other fine qualities, shouldn't be conducting interactions of a roleplaying nature.
