Maybe I'm missing something in this log, but:

Considering that Betazenth had zero servitors with him at at time of the landing (and did nothing after the landing), maybe he didn't intend for the gaunt to actually succeed. Maybe he was just doing it to harass the rager. I don't know how amazing Polemachus was, and I'm sure you just trying to help out conjurers with suggestions, but I am thinking you might be flaming Betazenth for the wrong reason.
