It's a bad move because when you don't have the orb, you're weaker than the average mage. And being weaker than the average mage, makes you EXTREMELY weak to villagers who (90% of them) deathblow and bloodthirst. Experienced advice says: train hp
I thought the exact same way. I am a gnome mage with 321 base hp and 853 base mana. I can't conjure anything more powerful than someone with 500 hp and 650 mana without the orb. I thought I could rely on the orb all the time to give me a constant amount of high hit points. Sure, when I'm average equiped and I transform off of Nature (non-attack) I usually have 1200 hp.
