Well I suppose it clears up at least why I can
not enter hell and not to bother even trying
anymore. I have one more question about this area
banning since you said
"someone can be permitted through "explore area" bans. This would be extremely rare."
This rare statement indicates that it is not likely, but since I
would really like to see what hell is all about, the only way to
do this would be to email the Immortals at
immortal@carrionfields.org? or I suppose find a
new ISP?
Also, does the same banning apply to all quest like
areas such as the Tower of Trothon (which would like
to explore, but haven't been there yet). Such as should
I bother even trying to find these special areas. Another
question is would this apply to questing to become
a lich as well since I would be limited to the span of
areas to search for items and what not?
Thanks for clearing some things up.

So we decided to implement a minor form of in-game banning that could apply to all exploration areas in the game. Since the problem arose around Hell, I was the first to make use of the "explore ban" code (and Charon makes for an excellent place to check for explore banning). Some of the other exploration areas don't lend themselves quite as easily to banning and, although we've discussed it some on how to do that (it seemed too disruptive to IC play to have a force field just prevent banned players from entering an explore area), I don't think we ever came up with clever ways to do it.
