Being evil is about doing whats best for yourself, always. It has absolutely nothing to do with destroying good. ABSOLUTELY NOTHING To any true evil the alignment of anyone else is(or at least should be) completely irrelevant.

As far as the value of the elf quest, the boots and the exp received are well worth letting one elf live and even helping him. When an evil knows what he is going to get it is in his best interest. He acts in his best interest with no concern of anything else. This is evil. The alignment of the victim the evil is rescuing is irrelevant.

> This is a fantastic reason to anathema someone, and if you follow the quest, you're doing good and are rewarded for it. This is very different than allowing an elven master help you retrieve the Codex. The elf had their life saved, you got a pair of boots, if anything you're the sucker because the elf got the better end of the deal and you should be anathed for being manipulated by the light. Further most people who do this do it to get the boots, not from some diabolical roleplay based desire. If you're sphere greed or deception and you have in your role why you got the boots and it makes sense... then it might be tolerated if your reason fits the Empire. Otherwise, its an excellent reason to anath someone.
