"Manipulated by the light?" You have a weird perception of what "evil" means. Good vs. Evil is not a freaking team sport. An evil person is one who will do whatever it takes to advance himself. Look at the choice presented: Save a life, get some boots. Don't save a life, don't get the boots. If it's not too much effort to save the life, there is NO REASON WHATSOEVER that an evil person wouldn't be willing to get the boots. If this were totally baseless altruism, that would be a different story, but it's not.
Further note: There's no reason why an evil person wouldn't want to ally with "good" people if it would further their goals. Seriously, dude, you ought to get your definitions straight.
