Nepenthe's comments seemed aimed toward not letting certain things happen to you (turning around before you hit the waterfall) as opposed to swimming like mad up a waterfall after you've gone over. He compared Imbrogno's fiend fights to sitting around in Galadon at Market Square for forty five minutes and getting assassinated. Translation: Don't allow the situation to happen, and it won't be so bad for you. Yes, it's bad if a bard sings you up, spells you up, and sings fiend, but the trick is to not let it happen. And, if it does happen, have a contigency plan.

It's never easy, but in general, a newbie bard/necro/fill in the blank is not going to kill you unless you've made a big mistake (and killed yourself).
