yes, you can be hidding
but what would be the game for you then?
That is my point it would be just pretty bad
gameplaying for you if you will be hiding for hours.
and, yes, sometimes you can get good saves,
though if you will be voyanced in 10th attempts (not in 1th)
it would not make you happy.

gaunts, again, it damages gameplaying
when you have to watch the time, you have to drop
anything, you're doing and hide for the peroid of time
when you can be gaunted, etc, etc. You simply
can't relax even if you are far from a conjurer
(unless you are "too far")
And this conjurer can be just drinking the beer with Astillian.
or practicing magic missile.

Maybe it is not good word to call gaint/clairvoyance overpowered
but they are annoying/damaging gameplaying spells (like rot/pwk/etc
but at least for rot/pwk you have to be in the same room)
