I think comparing "damage on a stick" to damage you have to go out and collect is a weak way to approach the argument.

I'll take the easy call-it-and-it's-there damage over the 4 hour long trek into the very depths of Hell to come out with nice damage dealing equipment or the killing of really heinous beasts to come out with a neato uber-deadly wand or stave.
