PB: But then again, we define "elite" differently. Apparently, we don't, then. The E-word is often invoked to describe some of the more kill-happy power-oriented players more indiscriminately than that, which bothers me. TA: Amazingly enough, everyone on that list ranged from above average in roleplaying to exceptional. Go figure. PKing and RP aren't inversely proportional, as shocking as that may be. In fact, I'm hard pressed to think of *anyone* I'd consider elite who's a poor roleplayer. I can't say I've (knowingly) crossed paths with anyone on that list other than Zharradam and Gareth. (I believe I started in Summer '98, and didn't play very much until a year later.) I'd agree with your assessment of both: Sure, they can roleplay when they choose to. It does tend to get sacrificed (as do the rules of the game) when they feel a need to add to their shiny numbers, but the ability is there. As far as the inverse proportion: I don't think I've ever made that claim. It's a foolish one: Two of the best roleplayers I've seen (Istendil though tales from the past, and Zorszaul firsthand) run up kills like crazy. You're obviously skilled at the mechanical aspects of the game, but your characters were interesting to interact with. I'd actually say that they are likely positively correlated, to the extent that being a solid RPer can get you rewards (quest skills, tattoos, leadership positions, and allies who like being around you) that can make a skilled player even more dangerous, and that both skills correlate with long-time experience on CF. TA: Just my two cents. Various peoples' little harangues about the evils of a PK-oriented approach to the game bother me. I'm not sure if you are still addressing me here, but I'll stand by my point: If someone is only good at the PK aspects of the game, I don't think of them as a top tier player in the overall sense.
