What of honor etc. that Dhaevor was just accusing the bard of lacking. > Honor wasn't at issue. This was about respect (and contrary to classic Knight dogma, there is a difference between honor and respect). I realize that Nullrick stood no chance whatsoever of beating me without his songs, but that wasn't the point. I didn't undertake this course of action because I felt assured of victory, nor was I looking for an easy win (e.g. when Pica let me pick the place of the duel, I chose a forest). If Nullrick's actions had been different, I wouldn't have killed him. He continued to basically mock me, while ignoring the substance of the accusations I was making. If he'd just clarified his position respectfully (not of me, of the tablet and of the village), that would've been enough. After his repeated refusal, I did the only thing left to be done and attacked him. > I think being assisted by 3 other hero or near-hero Ragers sufficiently outweighs the fact that he couldn't sing harmful songs on me. > > And I always thought the the village was not just a bunch of uncouth barbarians. Yes, they are barabrians on some level but BT also speaks of cunning and wisdom in battle, knowing your oppoentnt etc. How does this jibe with seeing red and slaying a bard deprived of his voice? > Dhaevor was tattooed by BT, and was just as much a tactician as a barbarian (and I wasn't a "me kill mage" type... he was of royal blood, well-educated and very verbose). Also, remember, BTs religion is distinct from the Battle cabal. There have been Imperials with his tattoo, and such. But anyway, at the heart of it, Battle *is* a band of raging barbarians. Bloodshed and trial by combat are routine means of solving disputes within the village, and there is a circle of rites for this particular purpose. "Seeing red" is very much what being a Battlerager is about... what do you think bloodthirsting is? And nothing should arouse the ire of a Rager more than seeing the essence of the village disrespected. > Finally, as noted in the log, Thror explicitly told me when he titled me, that I should kill any who disrespected the tablet. I had to swear to do so when he reinducted me after Takashimi booted me. That dispelled any lingering doubts in my mind about what the right thing for my character to do was.
