  You stand on a cobblestone street just north of the southern gate.  The
poor neighborhood of town, more commonly referred to as the Maze, lied to

On the Bridge
  Here the High Road arches over the Galadon River on its way to the south
gate of Galadon.  The bridge is made of fine sturdy stone with a chest-high
balustrade protecting you from falling into the river.  The High Road leads
into Galadon to the north and towards the south gate to the south.

Large Intersection
  You are standing at the intersection between the High Road and the River
Road.  A large round wood board with a heavy iron ring set in it covers a
hole in the center of the intersection.  Faint wisps of steam escape around
the edges.  The High Road enters the city of Galadon to the north and runs
toward the south gate to the south.  The River Road follows the Galadon
River to the east and west.  The Dark Temple broods over you to the northeast.

  The broad avenue seems to be falling into disrepair here, as though the
masons do not care to come to this part of the city.  You hear raucous
laughter coming out of a tavern to the west.  The Dark Temple looms
menacingly over you to the east.  The windows seem more like brooding eyes
and the archway in the wall seems like a huge mouth ready to swallow you.
The road continues to an intersection with the River Road to the south and
meets with the Market Square farther to the north.

stand to the north and an armory to the south.  The market square lies to the
west and the road continues towards the east gate to the east.

battlements above.  To the west, the Market Road leads into the city through

Beyond the Outskirts of Galadon
  Constructed of great slabs of stone, a wide road departs the protective
walls of Galadon to the west, sloping gently as it descends into the
broad river valley of Voralia's Tears to the east.  The rows and furrows of
cultivated fields are visible from this modest height, stretching out to
the limit of the horizon in all directions save west, where the towering
battlement walls of Galadon stand quiet watch.  The breadbasket of Thera,
this region provides the majority of the grain and livestock that feeds
the citizens of Galadon, Voralian City and even distant Hamsah Mu'tazz.

The Eastern Crossroads
  By far the most congested crossroads of all those that surround Galadon, the
old road has been ground into nothing but dry dirt.  The trail kicks up
clouds of dirt at a step, old trails leading off in all directions.  Farms
fill the countryside, extending as far as the eye can see.  The road east
leads straight across the plains, across the desert to the city of Hamsah
Mu'tazz.  The trail north and south extends around the edge of the city of
Galadon, skirting along its border.  The road west leads into the grand
eastern gate of Galadon.  You notice a small sign off in the tall grass.

An Opening in the Forest Trail
  You come to a wide opening, barely enough grass to even call a meadow.  
Great trees stand at a distance from a city to the south, silent observers
to a great fortress of ruined rock and stone.  Not a single creature appears
to be heading to the south, along a small path through the forest.  To the 
north, you can see the dirt of a wagon-marked road.  Perhaps you should turn
back and head there.

A Turn in a Secluded Forest Trail
  Here there is an abrupt turn in the forest.  To each side rests a small stump
where once grew mighty trees.  A brutal cut can still be seen in the wooden
behemoth, marking the severe end of this plant's life.  Prints in the ground
are distinctly those of giants, and probably lead toward the ruins further to
the south.  Dead leaves of brown and orange litter the ground, marking the
eternal autumn that these woods have come to know.  You can continue further 
north and east here.

Low hanging branches scratch at your face, hanging so low that it is almost
painful walking through this brush.  A small stump is in the middle of the
path here, cut brutally by what appears to be a massive axe of sorts.  You can
continue to the east and west here.

The Outskirts of Ostalagiah
  Here lay the outskirts of the citadel of Ostalagiah.  Broken ramparts run
along the ends of the city walls, forming an impenetrable barrier of stone.
Ruined flags regarding the once superiority of the city of giants, hang in
defeat as a cold breeze stirs around the ramparts.  Small patches of grass
attempt to grow from the cold earth, seeking any form of sunlight that might
breach the dark clouds that loom over these walls.  You remain close enough
to the walls that you can smell the stench that fills the streets within.

The Gates to the Streets of Anguish
  Great gates of iron mark the entrance to the city streets.  This is
the flank end of the ruins, where the merchants and often allies of
these looming giants enter the city streets in comfort.  Guards walk 
the ramparts and you can easily note the glares you get upon entering.
There is a lack of wood on these buildings, much of which are solid stone
that make the foundation of this stronghold.  Great spires reach into
the air toward the east, shadowing you as well as most of this narrow
street.  You note the sounds of pain that come from further along
the street.  There are also cries of hatred and anger that come from 
some of the nearby shops and alleys.  These streets were aptly named,
as anguish seems to be the only emotion in the air.

The Gates to the Streets of Anguish
  Rusted gates of iron mark the entrance here.  An eerie silence is all that
you note while walking through the gates.  Dark shadows serve to remind you
that there could be some form of life hiding among the wreckage here.  Some
pillars of stone remain here to serve as signs that this was once a city,
or stronghold of sorts.  The ruined gates sit to the north of you.

The Breaching of the Walls of the Ostalagiah Ruins
  You climb atop the pile of rubble and ash which once stood as the
western wall of Ostalagiah.  It served its purpose well, but not well 
enough.  It now stands in ruins, smoldering remains of what was once a
mighty city.  After many years of war the united fronts finally destroyed
the wall, through which a flood of dwarven, elven and human soldiers came. 
After freeing the slaves, ransacking the city and turning the walls to
rubble, the united front turned around and headed back to their respective
homelands to the north.  While that ancient war is over, the sight of 
distant burning fires and a village settled to the west of here gives one
reason to believe that it is not the only war that occurs throughout these
ruined buildings.

Before a Fortified Hillock
  A large mound of earth has been pushed up here, forming a strategically
planned barrier to the village just beyond. Behind the earthen barricade
stand the gates -- heavy, massive, fortified iron gates that require much
muscle-power to move -- and beyond them you can see the faces of numerous
huts, most looking as rugged as the hills before you. In the distance,
people move about within the secluded village, and smoke drifts up from
various campfires and cookstoves. The gruff sound of barbaric voices drifts
to you on the wind, as does the occasional burst of laughter and clang of
metal.
