If you as a evil person doing something out of the ordinary. Planning is all that matters.
For example having a special craving to help elven faeries, as a big fire giant ap. Might be a tad unusual, therefore document it in your role, that you had this special faerie encounter as a little newborn wicked giant(joke).
I am pretty sure that you have to think of something rather wicked to flesh out a Imperial who actually helped the one in boot quest, since you can't have IC knowledge that the person will hand you some boots when you have finished it.
Lessons:
1. If you are doing something out of the ordinary, put it in your role ... Thinking about it at level 1 might be a good idea.
2. If you get a lifealtering experience later in life, document it in your role ... Perhaps even the stages that led you to it.
3. Have a Sphere that conforms with your choices, even though you are not a communer it might not be wise to have sphere Destruction/evil and do the boot quest.
4. Some common courtesy and RP(instead of the damn you are always after ME attitude) to a IMM, might install a brighter future for your chars. Even when caught in something unusual.
Tada ...
