Well for me best way not to get killed by fiend is not allow
bard to sing it.
I was pretty much surpized I lasted that long and almost killed.
As far as I know no giant (save for some storm giant paladins) were able
to defeat fiend without external heals.
Now I think I should have recalled and healed dozen times. Might saved my butt.

Next time I know what I would do with bard.
