The Immortal hardly has to respond here, and in any case I'm all for further seperation of the Sects like this (text.):

First, I'm not the Immortal who anathed this particular person.

Second, any Sect Leader, Emperor, or Immortal can anath anyone with or without reason. It is part of what makes up Empire, so you could be anathed becuase your description is offensive. Its part of being Empire. In my opinion I'm quite suprised that there isn't a lot more of "Give me that item or you're anathema," "You pissed me off so you're anathema," and "I'm in a bad mood so you're anathema" going on among the Mortals, but I digress.

Third, there may or may not be complicated reasons, previous histories, and circumstances outside of this log that associates with these players. The Immortal in question may or may not want to address these to the public, may or may not be reading the forum, or specifically the log forum (I generally only read this one) these days, or may or may not care to answer for other reasons.

Fourth, if you're in Empire part of the risk you play is that you could get anathed unfairly. Empire is arguably the least fair cabal to be a part of, but the easy entry into Empire isn't nearly as easy as getting anathed. Is it fair to the players to start anathing people from the lowest rank up until the Codex is returned to the Omegus? Maybe not but it fits in the Role of Empire. Was it unfair what happened to those two in that particular log? I don't know, I wasn't involved in that particular situation, but it is definitely in the Role of certain Immortals to not be fair and to anath on a whim if you think the person isn't being a shining example of an Imperial.

I think one interesting, intelligent point was made in this controversy (I read the log now) and that is that it is more important to APPEAR to be a good Citizen than to actually be a good Citizen. The fact that these two were way too chummy, kind, polite, and somewhat cowardly definitely doesn't indicate the kind of interaction that should be going on in Empire. If Blade and Arcana word together, it should be a grudging cooperation with each trying to make the other look bad while making themselves look good. To shelter the Blade, in my opinion, isn't that impressive Imperial Roleplay unless you have something definite to gain out of it.

Saying that we "Fight a Common Enemy" isn't enough, you need to be able to make yourself, your sect, your god look better than anyone elses. In Empire you should celebrate others failing and/or becoming Anathema, that is just one less person between you and the throne. It is stripping away the parts we don't want/need in Empire. If Battle has the Codex and Blade is getting wasted trying to recover it, then Divine rips through the Battleragers and gets the Codex, Divine should be ridiculing Blade for their incompitence and if the Imms observing are watching, maybe a Blade or two gets anathed.

Now, I admit it sucks when my characters get anathed (and it has happened) sometimes it was my fault, and sometimes it wasn't. If you're really pissed about it, get rough-and-tumble and rally the other anathema around you (those who didn't just delete outright) and start picking off Citizens. Make them regret rejecting you. *shrug*

OK, feel free to flame away.
