Things you wish you knew as a *true* CF newbie

November 30, 2009 06:28AM
Hi,

I've spent most of the Thanksgiving vacation reading forums and helpfiles, and not a whole lot of time actually playing CF but I am intrigued and the game and community look great.

I am not a stranger to "advanced" or "high-commitment" muds but I have been having a difficult time getting into CF mostly because as many people have mentioned, the learning curve is very high.

I found the item list and maps on this site and I expect that will be a huge help in allowing me to 'gear up' and 'get around', but thats not exactly the thing slowing me down.

I could mindlessly rank and gear and get to level 20 or 30 in a reasonable amount of time but still have little true knowledge or understanding of how the game world plays, and be sorely lacking in cabal, politics, pvp interaction.

So besides for whatever blanket tips you might have for a new (but not novice) player like myself, I was hoping I could get some info on how or where to get some of the needed rp involvement / interaction for my character.

I understand that 1st chars don't always make it in Cabals or what have you, but after about 5 or 10 hours ingame (on various chars) I'm not exactly sure how to even put myself on the radar of a cabal aside from sending a note.

Also any suggestions for an easy class / race combo for someone that occasionally can't find the baker.

Thanks for the help, love reading the forums, seems like a great mud.

You're one of the ones that should probably be reading this thread, not answering. nt

I found this site useful too

daurwyn(VIP) November 30, 2009 12:47PM

Honestly, the only thing I found useful from the official site when I first started were the race/class links.

Again - thank you all for the encouragement. (n/t)

Nah, warrior is fine for a newbie with an offensive mentality.

I actually think some of the best classes for a newbie are empowerment classes.

Wizlist showing playtimes is a lot newer than it used to be.
